As more and more graphics that are designed for clothing steer toward political and social statement, some people just prefer their apparel to stay in the realm of cool, and not to deviate towards the preachy or provocative. The fact is, some graphics can actually do both, but do both so subtly that they create an all around experience for the viewer or wearer that seems to encompass not just an idea, but an image, and even a feeling with extraordinary completeness.
This stardust graphic is a beautiful representation of this overall encircling of an experience, as it is created with the knowledge and realization that true style is simple. Rather than crowding the design with hundreds of different metaphoric images or tons of words and catch phrases, the design focuses on two three main points.
The main hinging focus is the central word: "stardust". What does this word actually mean? As the dictionary tells it, it would most likely mean something along the lines of "small atomic particles that emanate from stars and drift about the universe". Of course, it has been appropriated, as a term, but many different science fiction and fantasy films, making it something altogether different in the minds of many. Stardust is something intangible, but simultaneously something incredibly important. The dust of anything implies its decomposition, and therefore the dust of stars is something that illustrates the fleeting nature of even the largest most stable objects we can comprehend.
Behind the bold block letters is an actual depiction of stardust. Perhaps, the graphic says, this is what stardust might look like. It might be made up of stars, globes, spheres, prisms, crosses, and diamonds and circles. It might trail like a jet stream and flow just like a waterfall. The design seems to note the cool and trendy look that this "stardust" brings out in the image, and its original and ever changing pattern make those who view it take notice.
The final focus of the graphic is the cosmic eagle that soars majestically out and above the centre, trailing behind it the visual representation of the verbal main idea. While the eagle might be flying away, it is leaving something behind, and thus perpetuating the cycle of life, of stars burning bright and then collapsing in a cloud of stardust. This design is a threefold demonstration of what it means to be both stylish and vivacious. Fully alive, and alive with a vengeance.
