The skull mania t-shirt is as another classic example of the skull and crossbones style bringing an updated version of pirate chic to the modern world but managing to look fabulous when doing so. Skeletons may not always have been regarded as fashion icons, more for Halloween than for everyday use but there is a growing trend for them being used in fashionable wear in recent seasons and it does signify the rebellious live fast, die young rock n roll streak that passes for cool these days.
The harshness of the skull and crossbones is juxtaposed with the scenic setting of garden and wildlife which attempts to infuse a scenic sense of tranquility into proceedings. The addition of the floral arrangement may make this t-shirt a better style addition for girls but the bold and striking colors means that it is suitable for either sex. In fact, the greens and purple like pink vibe that is coming off the skull gives it a positively psychedelic feel that means it is tied to the 1960s as much as it is to the current day. Even the lettering that read skull mania down the side of the skeleton looks as though it positively dripped from a lava lamp which gives even more credit to the idea that this t-shirt is advocating the promotion of the peace and love dream from a bygone generation.
The t-shirt also has a rebellious streak because if you look closely many people will get the impression that perhaps it advocates smoking and maybe not content of a completely legal nature. The fern across the mouth of the skull at first symbolizes the teeth but could also be a metaphor for the herb and from the edge of the fern, there is a spiraling upwards of lines and vapor trails which could easily pass for smoke and you get the impression that the Jolly Roger is certainly getting jolly on life. The flowers in the eyes of the skull also advocate a peace and serenity with the world associated with hippie culture and peace and love so it is probably best for each individual to make their own conclusion about any subtle meaning.
The design is again another classic example of simplicity and restraint with the policy of less is more allowing the individual parts to combine to make up the look of the skull casually enjoying a recreational smoke and there is no doubt that the t-shirt will provide a talking point for its wearer whatever the environment they choose to socialize in.
