Perhaps the phrase pin-up girl is not one that is a frequent usage in your vocabulary, but in the 1950's, it was common slang for any girl who was sexy enough that you'd want to pin her picture up on your wall. Of course the tradition of pinning desirable female images on the wall has not gone out of fashion whatsoever. Teenagers and even adults today consistently hang up posters of their favourite actresses, models, and music stars on their walls. Of course, the slang term has started to phase itself out, but it still rings true with many.
This graphic is hot. Literally. Looking at it, the viewer gets a sense that it could easily make the wearer five degrees warmer. The background is a nest of flames that spike upward, downward and outward on both sides creating what looks like it could be a rather comfortable resting spot, if it weren't on fire. In the foreground, the figure of a woman with a pale white body dressed in a skimpy black dress reclines on the flames with a multi-ringed circlet of barbed wire spun about her waist. While her body is white, her face is black, and from out of her hair have sprung two bright red horns. By her left side the words "hot-blooded" feature, and on her right, the phrase "pin-up girl" makes its appearance.
It might seem like this design is just a little too indicative of passion and of sensuality, but there is a real symbolism to some of this graphic that far exceeds its more obvious qualities. Most notable is the barbed wire that wraps itself around the female's reclining figure. Perhaps, one might think, she is being kept prisoner, and those are her chains that bind her to hell. But at a closer look, it becomes more apparent that perhaps this sharp obstacle is part of her outfit. Perhaps, she is purposefully being both seductive and also dangerous in order to illustrate the fact that such hot-blooded gals may not always come without a sharp note to them.
Finding original graphics can be tough these days, but this design is an impeccable demonstration of what a little bit of thought and subtlety can do for an image. This graphic is more than just a simple design, it is a statement about the wiles of female seduction as well as an eye catching image.
