Many different people in our society have become idolized as gurus of love. People like John Lennon, Ghandi, and the Dali Lama have been imortalized in history as the guardians of sacred truth and knowledge: the fact that love conquers all, and that, to quote the Beatles, "all you need is love". But what, exactly, does it mean to be a guru of love? A guru is someone who is a spiritual leader and expert, so a guru of love must mean someone who can guide others in their spiritual and mental quest toward love. Whether this love is the love of intimante relationships or whether it is a derivative of the spiritual, all encompasing love that John Lennon dreams for in the song Imagine is unclear, but it is most likley a little of both as they go hand in hand. With oriental philosophy and meditation techniques burning across the west including Europe and the United States like wildfire, it is no surprise that a graphic design like this has been made to show this influence and play on the interaction of western tradition with the eastern art of mental and spiritual exercise. While those in oriental countries also strive to keep the body fit, they spend more time keeping the mind and the spirit in shape than those in most western countries do. This is partly due to their traditions and heritage, and partly due to the fact that they see the importance of such commitment to harmony between the mind, spirit, and body, something which western philosophy is only beginning to appropriate. The principles of oriental philosophy and meditation techniques like yoga are older than you would imagine, coming from millenia ago, and arriving now in your hands, virtually unchanged. They are designed, essentially, to help you "chill out" for a few moments a day in order to quiet an overactive mind or stimulate one that needs to become more ambitions. They are a chance to inspire the flame of love within yourself and to tune your spirit in to the energy and motion of the world and the celestial spheres. All in all, meditation is fun, as this graphic design suggests. The design features a simple but powerful shadow-hand making the traditional posture of meditation. Inside the circle of the index finger and thumb, the spiritual element that perpetuates the flame of love rests, and then the flame rises from the tips of the fingers and climaxes near the top of the graphic in a red heart that sums up the idea of meditation while simultaneously making the design look modern and stylish.
