As a final understanding of the various artistic movements that have alternated throughout the past few centuries has begun to infuse the artistic ideals and sentiments of this generation, graphic design has begun to pull apart the different thought schools of art in order to appropriate small details and themes that suit its particular purpose in the modern era. While the ornate and florid style of the baroque era has been appropriated for use in many different counter-culture movements, the gothic element of artistic endeavours has made its way firmly into film and photography as well as other graphic elements. And of course, a cool, modern twist is always added in to popular media in order to make the old seem new again.
Revitalizing older traditions has been a consistent pastime of many in this day and age. Old novels are revamped into screenplays, and even old films are remade with new effects and actors in order to make them accessible to the culture of today. It seems that just as fashion design continues to cycle and re-model older fashions to suit the needs of today, artistic design does the very same, grasping at traditions as recent as the 1960s and also hearkening back to themes from over four centuries ago.
This design features a delicate vine that grows outward from a central point. With three offshoots and many flowers that have sprouted from it, it is a very simple design at first glace. However, this graphic becomes much more than its first glance intimates with a slightly closer look. It begins to take on a life of its own, and it becomes a rather surreal undertaking. As the flowers, the vine's own precious cargo, grow outward and away from the centre, it almost seems that the vine is holding them back, and causing them to curve inward rather than reach up and out the way they desire.
This dreamy, intricate, and elegant design is one that should be taken seriously. It gives off the feeling of a sudden growth, combined with the flighty escapades of a transient butterfly. All in all, it is weighty and light at the same time.
