It becomes second nature for many fashion designers to choose graphics that are obscure or odd, or to choose the subject matter in order to be controversial. And of course, this strategy usually works, or it wouldn't be used so often. Sometimes, however, a designer will prefer to choose something that is classy, simple, and yet modern. It seems that this graphic was created by a designer who was in this type of mode. It is a very simple design, but it is elegant and combines elements of many different styles to make something that both draws the eye and makes a statement.
The word that is "embroidered" into the denim centre of this design is Chic, a word that comes from French fashion, and has come to mean everything from stylish to smooth, and yet is a great incarnation of what it means to create a good design. In this graphic, the word chic is imposed upon an oval which appears to be the main body of a butterfly like creature, or the centre of a cloudy, foamy, abstract shape.
The texture of the denim is what really makes this design. Denim has been an incredibly fashionable material for trousers for men and women for a few decades now, and denim jackets, shirts, and blouses have also gone in and out of fashion for the past few cycles of fashion trends. Now, jeans are some of the most popular trousers in the world, durable, fashionable, and available in styles anywhere from dressy to casual. Jeans go with everything, and part of this is the texture and look of the denim material that makes them so versatile.
This versatility is no doubt what attracted the designer of this graphic to include the texture in this image. It makes the rather fluid and flowing abstract whirls and swoops draw together, and it gives the design some continuity that it would lack otherwise. The diverse stylistic elements of this graphic are brought together by one of the simplest techniques in graphic design - consistent colour and texture. However, this simple technique makes this design all the more effective and interesting.
