Frankly, summer holidays have become somewhat cliché of a topic in popular design these days. The fact is, many television networks have syndicated many summer holiday specials and other such shows, and hundreds of movies have been made depicting holiday road trips or vacations, all of which have permeated popular culture with too many such images. The hot sun, cool water, and sand in between are just some of the images that have become somewhat boring and overused. However, some graphics break out of this standard and become new additions to the popular culture idea of summer fun.
This graphic, depicting the sultry image of a girl in a bikini as she leans back and rides a wave, is more than its rather mundane title, "beach girl". It features a colour scheme that draws the eye in and makes it a very visually attractive. The centre of the design is a bright green circle, and the outline of the design is black. The female figure is clothed in black and this highlights the central part of the design, the scantily clad woman that seems to feature in all good beach scenes. Of course, this graphic is more than just fun, it is trendy. Surrounding the design is the phrase "hot summer" repeated three times and interspersed with stars. The colour of these words is a bright purple, which contrasts perfectly with the green of the centre, making this graphic even more attractive.
And yet, what is it that separates this sea and sand scene from the typical type? Mostly the excellence of its design. It is simple and yet makes even the most jaded popular culture buff want to get out and enjoy some surfing, some beach volleyball, or just splash around in the ocean. As the surfing culture has radiated throughout the world from the Californian and Hawaiian beaches, it has made more waves than nearly any other.
This graphic is both trendy and eye catching, and it makes you want to carve a gigantic wave as it breaks on a tropical white sand beach. It makes you want to get out and experience a truly hot summer.
